who is doing what

I think that poodle would be a good candidate for organizing the underclassmen to participate in the BC fest I also could help her if she accepts the challenge. Some thing that we could do for BC fest is do something in the future TV studio maybe take pictures of the studio now and put them in the time capsule.

My capstone experience has been great. I have been able to get my resume just right and been able to look at other resumes to get ideas. We also have been in contact with media professionals to look at what type of work that we do. During the last semester we were bloging about how things were going. This way we could see what others were doing. It was a great way to see what everyone was doing a show off what I was doing that week.

BC Festival

For the BC Festival, I was thinking about producing a segment that shows what goes on behind the scenes for The County Line. From getting the packages done to the producing and directing during the show. This was people can get a good look at how much work goes into each show.

Senior project

In doing my senior project so far I have been able to learn so much. Getting feedback on packages helps so much. For my senior project I would like to keep doing packages and improve the shooting and some b-roll that has been suggested to me.

Over Break

Over break I had a job interview with WKBN 27 Youngstown. It was really spur of the moment and was glad that I had my resume in order. The interview went well I met with four different people including the general manager. I was applying for a part-time director position manly weekend news director. I have not heard back from them but my hopes are still high.

Capstone

In my capstone I have accomplished a lot. I have started a job search and been able to contact people that can help me in the future. The most important thing that I did was to get my packages look at by a professional. This is something that I want to continue in the spring. I would like to apply the feed back and make my packages better.

Feed back

I had Jimm Needle take a look at one of my on the road packages and give me some feed back. Most of the things that he said were things that I already knew for example using a tripod to do the interviews. This is something that I know that I should have been doing all semester but have got into a bad habit of not using one. Jimm did say that I was able to tell the story and that was big strong point. Jimm also gave me some good ideas on new graphics to use and I am going to try some new things next semester.

Electives

The elective that I learned the most from and would recommend is producing and directing. In this class we concentrated more on the producing. In the class we were able to produce 88.9 on the county line, packages for the county line and the county line show. Producing the county line was my favorite producing job and the biggest job. It was very rewarding to see everything fall into place the way you planned as the show went on air. I am able to use the things that I learned in this class out side the class and out side of Westminster as I talked to other broadcasters.

On The Road

This “On The Road” was one of my favorites. We went to the Lawrence County Sportsman Association. They have just relocated and built a new lodge along with many shooting ranges and an animated sporting clay course one of only two in the state. Stevi and I toured the new facility and received a first hand lesson on shooting sporting clays. We got some great camera shoots of the clay targets getting shot and good audio of gunshots. One thing that we did not do is get an angle of the target getting hit from the shooters view. I wanted to duct tape a camcorder on the stock of the gun as we shot. Since I have already have had problems with camcorders I was a little gun shy about this approach. We ended up not getting the shot. Although this is one of my favorites I am still not satisfied with the outcomes of my packages. Something is missing and I don’t know what. Don’t get me wrong I think that my packages are good, just not perfect.

This week in broadcasting.

Saturday’s Titan game was wet. It rained the whole game. The cameras had to be covered up and our camera people got cold but they stuck it out like champs. Other than the rain the broadcast went well.

I went to Melissa DePaul’s capstone presentation on Tuesday. She had a lot of experiences to share. She did very well and set the bar high for the rest of us in the spring.
